DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS & FINANCE

BOARD CERTIFIED MUSIC THERAPIST

Erin is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). She completed her Bachelors in Music Therapy and Dance Performance at Eastern Michigan University.  After completing her internship at the Berea Children’s Home in OH, she was a Music Therapist and Dance Instructor at The Music Settlement in Cleveland for 5 years. Erin continued her passion to work with children with autism at STEPS Center for Autism as a Lead Behavior Therapist in the Pre-K to 2nd grade Intensive classroom. She also led group music therapy sessions in each of the eight classrooms, ranging from Pre-K to High School. Her experience and training in ABA, VB and Floortime carries into her music sessions.

Erin has been studying dance since the age of 3. She has been teaching dance classes for the past 12 years. At The Music Settlement, Erin taught traditional dance classes, as well as adapted classes for individuals with special needs from ages 9 to 50. She taught dance and choreographed for a variety camps and musical theater groups. Erin currently teaches traditional dance classes at North Royalton Dance Academy in ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical.

DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING

BOARD CERTIFIED MUSIC THERAPIST

Abbey is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). She holds her Bachelor’s in Music Therapy from the University of Dayton and is currently seeking her Masters degree and Early Intervention licensure through Cleveland State University. After completing her internship with New Avenues to Independence in OH, she spent almost 6 years working for The Music Settlement in Cleveland, OH. While at The Music Settlement, she gained expensive experience with a wide variety of special needs, particularly autism spectrum disorders. Most recently she provided group music therapy services to the Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism, Beachwood City Schools, Cleveland Public Libraries, in addition to individual music therapy and adapted lessons onsite at The Music Settlement.

Kate is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). She received her Bachelor’s of Music Therapy from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea. Kate completed her internship at the Institute for Therapy Through the Arts in Chicago, working with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities in individual and group settings. Post internship, Kate spent two years working as a contracted music therapist in Indianapolis, IN, where she continued her work with young adults with a wide range of special needs, specifically autism. Beyond Words is proud to have such a talented music therapist with us and her expertise is perfect for our students.

BOARD CERTIFIED MUSIC THERAPIST

Kamilah is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). She received her Bachelor’s of Music Therapy from Ohio University. Kamilah completed her internship at Helping Hands Center in Columbus, working with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities in individual and group settings.  It was during her internship, where she began implementing Applied Behavior Analysis, Verbal Behavior and Floortime techniques into her music therapy sessions, specializing in the autism spectrum disorder. Beyond Words is proud to have Kamilah’s expertise and training, which is perfect fit for our company and students.

BOARD CERTIFIED MUSIC THERAPIST

Mandy is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). She received her Bachelor’s of Music Therapy from Cleveland State University. Mandy completed her internship at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, working with patients in areas of hospice, oncology, medical, surgical, intensive care, palliative care, skilled nursing and acute care.  She also provides music therapy and community psychiatric supportive treatment services to adults at Ohio Guidestone throughout the greater Cleveland area. Beyond Words is proud to have Mandy’s range of training and experience that is perfect fit for our company and students.

ALICIA HRUBEYhrubey_alicia-1001

BOARD CERTIFIED MUSIC THERAPIST

Alicia is a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC).  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Mount Union in 2010 and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) in 2012 She attended Baldwin Wallace University where she completed coursework required to obtain her board certification in Music Therapy. Alicia currently sings professionally in the Cleveland area.  Additionally, she is trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy and has worked as an Outreach Therapist, Classroom Behavioral Therapist, and Senior Classroom Behavioral Therapist for the Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism.  Alicia is thrilled with this wonderful opportunity to learn and grow as a clinician. Beyond Words is proud to have such a talented music therapist with us and her expertise is perfect for our students.

EMILY SWEENEYsweeney_emily-1010

ADAPTED DANCE INSTRUCTOR

Emily graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelors of Science in Mild to Moderate Special education, with a concentration in language arts and social studies, and a minor in dance education. She is also a member of Alpha Xi Delta (whose national philanthropy is Autism Speaks) and was also chosen to be a member of a leadership fraternity on campus. She has been dancing for 18 years and teaching dance for 9 of those years. She was one of three student directors for a summer theater program for 3 summers, where she was also the choreographer. Emily has been volunteering to work with kids with disabilities for 7 years, taught summer school to children with autism for the 2 years, and was the lead dance instructor at a local non-profit social club for children with autism. She is very passionate about what she does and extremely excited to be a part of the Beyond Words family!

ADAPTED DANCE INSTRUCTOR

Sarah grew up in Dayton, Ohio and began dancing at the age of 3. She has been trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, and tap. She began dancing on her studio’s competition team at a young age and continued throughout high school, winning top awards. Sarah continued dancing throughout college on Bowling Green State University’s Dance Team. She danced on the team for 3 years and had the opportunity to compete nationally. Sarah was the assistant coach for the team for 1 year before moving home to Dayton where she taught at her childhood studio.  Sarah is currently a first grade intervention specialist.  She has been teaching adapted dance classes for 2 years, as well as teaching traditional dance classes with North Royalton Dance Academy.

ACTING INSTRUCTOR                                   

Lydia is our summer acting and drama instructor for the Triple Threat and adapted Triple Threat camps and classes.  Lydia and Erin met at The Music Settlement, where they collaborated for five years and provided musical theater classes and camps for children with special needs and traditional learners ranging from age 4-22.  Lydia’s extensive resume includes professional stage acting as well as teaching at several places within the Cleveland area.  Beyond Words is humbled to have Lydia’s expertise in our summer programs.
